In his legendary poem “Mending Wall,” Robert Frost says that good neighbors are made via good fences. There are many people who wholeheartedly agree with this sentiment. There needs to be a line of demarcation between the property of one individual and the property of another. The nice things about fences is that they don’t prevent people from interacting with each other. They simply set a standard of boundaries. And boundaries are needed in any good relationship, including the relationship that exists with neighbors living in the same community.
A fencing company Jacksonville FL definitely understands the value of fencing. Not only do fences serve as a way to clearly mark borders, but they also serve as a form of protection. People erect fences, especially heavy-duty ones, with the goal of keeping unwanted intruders outside of their homes. There are a lot of people in the United States who opt to live in gated communities. These gated communities not only have fences, but they also have security guards and in some cases 24 hour a day electronic surveillance.
One could argue that a fence or a wall only provides a limited amount of security. But what these individuals fail to understand is that when a person builds a fence around their property, they’re not only buying the actual security but they’re also buying the illusion of security. And in a lot of circumstances, the illusion of security is more important than the actual security itself.
This does not mean that a person would buy a fence that does not serve the purpose of keeping outsiders out. What it does mean, though, is that if a person feels safe inside their home, they’re going to be relaxed. They are going to see their home as a haven or as a protected zone from all of the negative influences they deal with on a daily basis outside. This sense of tranquility and sense of peace that comes from building a sturdy fence around one’s property is priceless.
When a person lives in a gated community or when they live on a fenced in property, they know that they can let their children go outside and play, they can let the animals run free, and they can leave their doors unlocked at times because the fence is what’s protecting them.
The sense of security and the sense of boundaries created by fences are part of the reasons why many believe what Frost said is true. Good fences make good neighbors.
